Agenda

  • Welcome
  • Next cycle items

Minutes

  • Jesse will take over graphics wg.
  • People missing from call due to travel and vacations.
  • Next cycle item organization happened last week
    • Toolkit optimization items were split and given priorities.
    • Compositor optimization items were split and given priorities.
    • Merged Xorg and kernel consolidation items.
  • Compositor optimization
    • Pixelflinger (Android)
      • Somewhat difficult because google keeps things internal for long but Android is important to partners
      • ACTION: Add Pixelflinger as a low priority item and discuss with TSC.
    • Need to check if proposed compositors actually support GLES 2.0
      • ACTION: Investigate compositors and give low priority to compositors that don't support GLES 2.0.
      • Many compositors don't support GLES 2.0 because there is no standard TFP extension.
        • We found out this cycle that the EGL_KHR_image_pixmap extension is a viable solution for this.
      • No TFP support for omap3. Need hardware/driver that supports TFP so we can test.
  • Validation
    • Need an initial set of apps from real world and a way of measuring performance for them.
    • Make sure we are benchmarking the right things eg pick tests that stress the graphics stack.
    • ... but perhaps general optimization is also needed
    • Cairo traces can be useful but have licensing issues. Perhaps we need to make our own?
    • There is a general lack of non-commercial GLES 2.0 benchmarks.
  • Issue with publishing performance statements about embedded GLES 2.0 chipsets/drivers.
  • WG needs more graphics application engineers.

Actions

  • Add Pixelflinger as a low priority item and discuss with TSC.
  • Investigate compositors and give low priority to compositors that don't support GLES 2.0.
