General information

This wiki page will be the central point for information about the Google Summer of Code 2015 in Linaro.

We have similar pages for Linaro's involvement in the Summer of Code in other years:

Google Summer of Code is a global programme that offers students stipends to write code for open source projects. Linaro is applying to be one of the mentoring organisations for 2015.

Ideas list / Participating / Applying

The list of suggested projects is available at: ProjectIdeas.

Students

You will have until March 27 to contact us and to apply on the Google Summer of Code application. But do not wait until the last minute! The earlier you get in touch with potential mentors for projects that interest you, the better your chances are that you might be accepted.

Familiarize yourself with Linaro and see what we do. There's lots more information on the Getting Started page too.

If you would like to get in touch, You can talk to us in various ways:

If you're interested in a project (whether it's one listed here or your own idea), contact the teams or people involved and discuss it. Don't be afraid to suggest seemingly crazy or vague ideas, we'll help you and give you suggestions. If you're not sure of what to do or who to talk to, ask the Summer of Code team members (see below). The earlier you prepare and the more effort you put into your project, the better your chance of success!

For more information about Linaro, please start on the website. For more help and guidance on the Summer of Code from a student's viewpoint, check Google's Advice for students page.

When applying, please use the Application Template and submit your application via the Melange web app.

Mentors

Come see us on IRC or on the mailing-list mentioned below. To register in the web application, you need to go to Linaro's Summer of Code project page (URL coming RSN!) and register yourself as a mentor.

A lot of information can be found on the Advice for mentors page. A practical mentoring guide can be found here.

For more details on the rest of the mentoring process in Linaro, see Internal/SummerOfCode2015/Mentors ; you'll need to log in using your Linaro account to be able to see these.

Contact

We use the following mailing list: http://lists.linaro.org/mailman/listinfo/linaro-gsoc . All students and mentors are invited to subscribe.

We're also on IRC: #linaro-gsoc in the Freenode network (irc.freenode.net). Feel free to join the channel and ask questions; if you don't get an immediate answer, be patient! (We do sleep sometimes :-P)

Google's Summer of Code general IRC channel is #gsoc in Freenode.

Team

Please add yourself to the relevant tables, preserving alphabetical order of the last names. To get a 'linkid', you will need to register on the Melange, the GSoC web application. Then, to be associated with Linaro in Melange, you will need to request a "Connection" with us via the Connections dashboard and then our admins can approve you. If you need help, ask... :-)
