Feedback from Friday wrap-up session

  • Newsletter
    • What is the right newsletter frequency -- 2 weeks or monthly?
    • Need to hold original content, not just a cut-n-paste from minutes and reports
  • OCTO
    • Want to try and get OCTO more generally involved in the sprint work
  • Event Feedback
    • Dinner at Medieval Times
      • Fun!
      • But since it was a show, maybe not very social
      • For instance, not a great way to get the Android crew introduced more widely
    • Plenaries
      • Could have done introductions all on the first day -- by Friday there isn't enough time to actually meet the people introduced
        • Maybe just the overall structure and leads since it's so many people
      • Mixed on frequency: some people said too many, some people said just the right amount
      • In general, preparation for them was pretty poor; low-quality plenaries hurt
      • Plenaries need to be written for the audience -- in this case, Ubuntu + Linaro
      • Could actually have more if the content was more relevant
    • Floor Plan
      • Having WGs and Platform so far apart really hurt cooperation between them
    • Demos
      • In general, there wasn't enough opportunity to showcase work and get feedback
      • Need to encode the need for demos into event process
      • Having posters for specific demos might be cool for rallies and UDS as well
    • Networking
      • Wifi was significantly flaky for some people
      • Ensure that wired internet is more generally available at rallies, since people are more stationary and our ARM hardware needs it anyway
      • We probably want more switches to support that
      • Launchpad downtime could have been at some other time!
    • UDS
      • We probably want to have time reserved for WGs to do Real Work
      • Possibly mornings of teamwork and afternoons of meetings, or vice-versa?
    • Announcements
      • Include a deadline to ensure management knows how long they have to sign off on travel
      • ACTION: Kiko to send out announcement on UDS-O
      • Many more plenaries could have been presented, make sure we announce plenary slots the next time around
      • We are also interested in collecting recommendations for attendees that we'd like to sponsor
      • ACTION: Announce invites and plenaries for UDS-O (Jamie? Arwen?)
    • Ubuntu overlap at sprint
      • Very mixed; for some teams the overlap was really good, for others less so
      • Who else would host our event?
    • Hardware
      • More please
    • ACTION: Encode parts of this in Internal/Process/EventPlanning (Joey?)
